Capabilities / Development & Sampling
From your brief to a considered sample.
A clear brief, the right materials, and structured feedback on each sample make production predictable.

01Your brief
What to include in your brief
The more of this we receive at the start, the fewer sample rounds are usually needed.
- Reference images or a sample garment
- Technical drawings or tech pack
- Product category and construction
- Fabric preferences
- Measurement chart
- Colour references
- Print or embroidery requirements
- Labels and packaging
- Indicative quantity
- Target delivery window
- Destination market and testing requirements
02Development stages
Six stages to an approved style.
- 01
Brief review
We confirm the category, construction, quantities, and timeline, and list open questions.
- 02
Material and construction discussion
Fabric options, weights, trims, and seam types are proposed and agreed.
- 03
Initial sample
A first sample shows the shape, construction, and proportions for your comments.
- 04
Fit and measurement review
The sample is measured against your chart and reviewed on a fit model or form.
- 05
Revision and approval
Agreed changes are made, and the approved version is recorded.
- 06
Production handover
The approved sample, specification, and trims list become the production reference.
03Sampling terminology
Sample types, explained.
Not every programme needs every sample type. The samples required are agreed with you for each order.
| Sample | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Development sample | Shows the design, construction, and proportions. Fabric may be a close substitute. |
| Fit sample | Checks measurements and fit in the base size, usually in the intended or similar fabric. |
| Size-set sample | Confirms grading across the size range before production. |
| Pre-production sample | Made in production fabric and trims; becomes the reference for bulk. |

04Review and approval
Recording what was agreed.
Each approval should be written down: the measurements, materials, trims, colours, and any revisions since the last sample. A clear record avoids misunderstandings when bulk production starts.
We recommend that comments are sent in writing against each sample, with photographs where helpful.
